The right programs depend on where your business is. Applying to a startup program as an established company (or vice versa) is a fast rejection.
Pre-revenue / early startups should look at:
- Futurpreneur (young founders, financing + mentorship)
- Starter Company Plus in Ontario (up to $5K, one of the easiest to get)
- IRAP, if you're technology-driven
Growth-stage / established businesses have the widest selection — 234 of 409 tracked programs accept them:
- CanExport (if you're export-ready — needs 3 FTEs and $300K revenue as of 2026)
- Canada Small Business Financing Program
- SR&ED (any business doing R&D should claim it)
The takeaway: filter programs by your stage first. Pre-revenue and growth-stage businesses qualify for genuinely different lists — apply to the one that matches where you actually are.
