The director sign-off

Submission · 5 min read

Grant applications commit your organization to statements the government treats as binding. That's why the authorized signing officer — a director or principal — must review and sign off before anything is submitted.

Government submissions must be accurate, factual, and substantiated. No unverified claims, no numbers you can't back up. If an application overstates revenue, capacity, or outcomes, the consequences land on the organization, not the person who typed it. The sign-off is the checkpoint where someone with authority confirms every claim is true and the organization stands behind it.

This is also why a good process separates drafting from submitting: the person who wrote it and the person who authorizes it are a built-in second set of eyes.

The takeaway: never submit without authorized sign-off. It protects the organization and forces a final accuracy check on every claim.
